Dalyan: A Hidden Gem
Dalyan is a charming riverside town on Turkey's southwest coast, famous for the Dalyan River, ancient Kaunos ruins, mud baths, and İztuzu (Turtle) Beach — a protected nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta).
İztuzu Beach
İztuzu is a stunning 4.5 km sand beach where the Dalyan River meets the Mediterranean. It is a protected area — the beach closes at night during nesting season (May–October) to protect turtle nests. During the day, visitors can enjoy the pristine beach and warm waters.
Getting There
Take a river boat from Dalyan town (30-minute scenic ride through reed beds, passing Lycian rock tombs). Boats run regularly and cost about 50–80 TL round trip. You can also drive and access from the road side.
When can I see turtles?
Turtle nesting season is May to October. The best chance to see turtles swimming is early morning. Baby turtles hatch from July to September.
