Ephesus and Pamukkale in One Day

Technically possible but not recommended. Ephesus (near Selçuk/İzmir) and Pamukkale are about 3 hours apart by car. A rushed day trip is exhausting and you will not fully enjoy either site. Two separate days is the ideal approach.

Best Approach: 2-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Fly or bus to İzmir, visit Ephesus in the morning, explore the charming town of Şirince in the afternoon. Stay overnight in Selçuk. Day 2: Morning drive to Pamukkale, spend the day at the travertine terraces and Hierapolis ruins. Continue to your next destination or return to İzmir.

About Ephesus

One of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world. Highlights include the Library of Celsus, Great Theatre (25,000 seats), Temple of Hadrian, and Terrace Houses. Allow 2–3 hours for a proper visit. Entry: 600 TL, Terrace Houses: 300 TL extra.

About Pamukkale

The white travertine terraces filled with thermal water are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk barefoot on the terraces and swim in the Cleopatra Antique Pool (extra fee). The ancient city of Hierapolis sits atop the hill. Allow 3–4 hours.

Are there organized tours?

Yes, many agencies run 2-day Ephesus + Pamukkale tours from Istanbul, departing by domestic flight or overnight bus. Prices range from 150–400 EUR per person including transport, hotels, and entry fees.

Technically possible but I would not recommend it. Both deserve at least half a day each. If you must, start very early at Ephesus (it opens at 8 AM), then drive to Pamukkale (about 3 hours). You will be exhausted but it is doable.

Ephesus alone deserves a full day if you include the Terrace Houses and the Archaeological Museum. Rushing through one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world feels like a waste. I recommend splitting them over 2 days with an overnight in Selcuk or Denizli.
