Crossing the Street in Turkey: Do cars stop for pedestrians?

The Law: Cars must stop for pedestrians at crosswalks.
The Reality: THEY DON’T.

Survival Guide:

  • Never assume a car will stop just because you are on the white stripes.

  • Make eye contact with the driver.

  • Wait for a gap in traffic.

  • Cross with a group of locals (use them as human shields!).

  • Green Man: Even if the pedestrian light is green, look left and right for turning cars.
