Turkey Electricity: What You Need to Know

Turkey uses 220V/50Hz electricity with Type C and Type F plugs (European two-round-pin style). US appliances typically run on 120V/60Hz with Type A/B plugs. This means US devices need both a voltage converter and a plug adapter.

Do I Need a Converter or Just an Adapter?

If your device says "100–240V" on the label, you only need a plug adapter (about $5–10). Most modern phone chargers, laptops, and camera chargers are dual-voltage. Hair dryers, straighteners, and curling irons are usually single-voltage (120V only) and NEED a voltage converter or they will burn out.

Our Recommendation

Buy a cheap hair dryer in Turkey (150–300 TL at electronics stores) rather than risking your expensive one. Many hotels provide hair dryers anyway. Bring a universal adapter with USB ports for your phone and camera chargers.

Will my iPhone charger work in Turkey?

Yes! All Apple chargers are dual-voltage (100–240V). You only need a Type C plug adapter.

Turkey uses 220V and European-style round two-pin plugs (Type C/F). US devices are 110V, so you need a voltage converter, not just a plug adapter. Many modern hotels have universal outlets in bathrooms though. Check your device - if it says 100-240V, you only need an adapter.

I fried my curling iron on my first trip because I only brought an adapter without a converter. Now I always check the voltage label on my electronics. Most laptop and phone chargers are dual-voltage (100-240V) so they just need an adapter.
