Getting a SIM Card in Turkey
Buying a tourist SIM card at Istanbul Airport is the best option. All three carriers have kiosks in the arrivals area. Prices range from 500–1500 TL for 20–50 GB data packages valid for 30 days. Bring your passport — it is required for purchase.
Carrier Comparison
Turkcell has the best coverage nationwide and is recommended for travelers going to Cappadocia and eastern Turkey. Vodafone offers competitive prices and good city coverage. Türk Telekom is the most affordable but has slightly less coverage in rural areas.
Important: IMEI Registration
Foreign phones used with a Turkish SIM card must be registered within 120 days or they will be blocked. For short visits (under 120 days), this is not an issue. Registration costs about 20,000 TL, so it is not worth it for tourists.
Can I use eSIM in Turkey?
Yes! International eSIMs from providers like Airalo and Holafly work in Turkey. They are more expensive per GB but convenient since you do not need a physical SIM.
