Getting from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Sultanahmet

Istanbul Airport is about 40 km from Sultanahmet. The main transfer options are: Havaist bus (cheapest), taxi (most convenient), private transfer (comfortable), and metro+tram (cheapest but slowest).

Havaist Airport Bus

The Havaist bus to Sultanahmet/Eminönü costs about 130 TL and takes 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Buses run frequently from the arrival level. Pay with IstanbulKart or cash.

Taxi from Airport

A metered taxi costs 500–800 TL to Sultanahmet (30–60 minutes depending on traffic). Use only official yellow taxis from the taxi stand. Ensure the meter is running. Uber also operates in Istanbul.

What about Sabiha Gökçen Airport?

Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) is on the Asian side, further from Sultanahmet. Transfer takes 90–120 minutes. Havabus to Taksim then tram to Sultanahmet is the most common route.

Should I get a private transfer?

Private transfers cost 300–500 TL for a sedan and include meet-and-greet at arrivals. Worth it for late arrivals, families, or those with heavy luggage.

Avoid the taxi drivers who approach you inside the airport - use the official taxi queue outside. Also, insist they use the meter. The new Istanbul Airport is far from the center (about 50 km) so budget accordingly.
