Hagia Sophia Entry Fee in 2026
As of January 2025, Hagia Sophia charges an entry fee for foreign tourists of 25 EUR (or equivalent in TL). Turkish citizens and residents still enter for free. The mosque section remains free during prayer times for all visitors who wish to pray.
How to Buy Tickets
Tickets can be purchased online through the official muze.gen.tr website or at the ticket office on-site. Online purchase is recommended to avoid long queues, especially during summer months.
Visiting Tips
Visit early morning (8–9 AM) or late afternoon to avoid crowds. The building is closed to tourists during the five daily prayer times (each lasting about 90 minutes). Women should cover their heads and shoulders; free scarves and shoe covers are provided at the entrance.
Is Hagia Sophia a mosque or museum?
Hagia Sophia has been functioning as a mosque since July 2020 after being a museum since 1934. Tourists are welcome to visit outside prayer times.
Is the Museum Pass valid for Hagia Sophia?
No. Hagia Sophia requires a separate ticket and is not included in the Istanbul Museum Pass.
