Turkey Weather Overview

Turkey spans multiple climate zones, so the best time to visit depends on your destinations. Generally, April–May and September–October offer the ideal balance of pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reasonable prices.

Spring (April–May)

Excellent for Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Ephesus. Temperatures are comfortable (15–25°C). Tulip season in Istanbul (April) is beautiful. Fewer tourists than summer. Some coastal areas may still be cool for swimming.

Summer (June–August)

Perfect for coastal Turkey (Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye). Hot in Istanbul and very hot in Cappadocia (35°C+). Peak tourist season with highest prices and biggest crowds. Best for beach holidays.

Fall (September–October)

The sweet spot for most destinations. Warm enough for swimming, comfortable for sightseeing, fewer crowds than summer. Cappadocia balloon flights are most reliable. Prices drop after mid-September.

Winter (November–March)

Cheapest time to visit. Istanbul is cool and rainy but atmospheric. Cappadocia can be magical with snow-covered fairy chimneys (but balloon flights often cancelled). Coastal areas are quiet and cool. Skiing is available at Uludağ and Palandöken.

When is the cheapest time to visit Turkey?

January–March offers the lowest flight and hotel prices. November is also affordable. Avoid July–August for the best deals.

April-May and September-October are the sweet spots. Pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and better prices. Istanbul is good year-round. Cappadocia is magical in winter with snow on the fairy chimneys. Avoid the coast in July-August unless you love extreme heat and crowds.

I visited in November and had an amazing time. Istanbul was cool but not cold, attractions had no queues, and hotel prices were half of peak season. The only downside was some coastal towns were shutting down for winter.
